Sony Still Can't Keep up with Demand for the PS4

It looks like Sony will be enjoying a 'Jingle all the Way' scenario until the American summer, as the company continues its struggle to keep up with demand for its latest console.

“We’re struggling to keep up with demand,” head of Sony’s PlayStation division Andrew House told The Wall Street Journal at this year's GDC.  “Conservatively, as we get into the early summer months, we’ll be closer to a full supply situation.”

Earlier this month, Sony announced PS4 sales have passed the 6 million unit mark less than four months after launch. The last update we received on Xbox One sales revealed 3 million units had been sold to consumers by the end of last year, though 3.9 million have been shipped to retailers. We've not heard an update since, but one presumes there's been fresh interest in Microsoft's console since the launch of its excellent exclusive Titanfall on March 14.

*The PS4 is currently back in stock at Amazon. For how much longer remains to be seen, though.

RollerCoaster Tycoon Returns - On Mobile Platforms

Atari has announced that it will be reviving the well-recognised RollerCoaster Tycoon series this spring on mobile platforms - and fan backlash has forced the publisher to admit that this mobile version will be followed by a more traditional "PC experience" later in the year.
According to the press release, RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile offers 20 pre-designed roller coasters alongside some unspecified new attractions and features.

It will also contain social integration, leaderboards, and achievements to provide a "truly engaging experience" - something which has upset fans, who worry that the inclusion of these social features also means the presence of in-game transactions. Indeed, the green buttons next to the currency indicators in the above screenshot suggest that there'll be other ways of earning in-game money than simply overcharging visitors entrance to your rides.

Atari has already assured fans that a new PC version is on the way, too. "There is a PC experience in production now for release this year," it said, responding to fans on Twitter, though it seems we'll have to wait awhile before we learn more details about either version.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile is being developed by On5, and will be coming to iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch for USD3. It's suggested that players sign up on the RollerCoaster Tycoon website for updates and "free bonus in-game gifts."

Sony Reveals The Last of Us Sales Figures

The Last of Us has sold over six million copies worldwide, Naughty Dog has revealed.

The studio made the announcement regarding its post-apocalyptic epic in a blog post detailing plans for the talks team members are giving at GDC 2014.

The news come hot on the heels of the game's success at this year's BAFTA Game Awards, where The Last of Us picked up a massive five awards. We got a chance to speak to creative director Neil Druckmann at the event, where he revealed the upcoming movie will be an adaptation of the game, and also spoke about a sequel.

We previously heard rumours that a sequel to The Last of Us was already in development, though it seems nothing solid has been decided.

Last week, Troy Baker, the man responsible for bringing Joel to life in The Last of Us, revealed he'd be interested in reprising his role for the movie if asked, and urged fans to trust in Druckmann's vision. He's equally as interested in returning for a sequel, should Joel once again feature.

Elizabeth Actress Talks BioShock Movie And Irrational

Courtnee Draper, the actress who brought Elizabeth to life in BioShock Infinite and its Burial at Sea DLC, has revealed she's talked with Ken Levine about the long-rumouredBioShock movie and revealed her surprise at his decision to downsize Irrational Games.

Speaking to IGN at last night's BAFTA Game Awards 2014, Draper revealed she's talked to Levine about reprising the role of Elizabeth should the BioShock movie ever come about, and is trying to convince him to crack on with it sooner rather than later.

"Are you kidding me?! Yes!" she replied when asked if she'd be interesting in playing Elizabeth on the big screen. "Hopefully it doesn’t take 20 years and then I’m too old, and could only play Old Elizabeth, but I think that would be so phenomenal. It’s something I’ve been talking to Ken about too because I’m excited for it, I’d be really excited to see that come to life on the big screen."

The cinematic adaptation of BioShock was originally going to be handled by Pirates of the Caribbean's Gore Verbinski working under Universal Pictures, but the project stalled in 2010 due to budgetary concerns. After Verbinski left and another director was brought in, BioShock creator Ken Levine killed the project himself, explaining he had concerns it was going to be "done in a way I didn't think was right."

The news that Draper has spoken to Levine even in passing about the BioShock movie suggests that, while Levine may have killed the previous project, the possibility that it may be resurrected if the right team and story presented itself is very much a real one.

Draper also addressed Levine's recent  decision to downsize Irrational, saying she had no prior knowledge of what was coming.

"I didn’t know it was happening until he released it and I saw the same letter everyone else did on Irrational’s website," she said. "I’m excited to see what he does with it, and I think all the people at Irrational are incredibly talented and they’re being picked up on other games and franchises, so it’s exciting to see what he does next."

Levine's decision means that the BioShock brand has been handed back to 2K Games, and the publisher plans to create new entries independently of Levine in future. For more on Irrational, read IGN's analysis of the layoffs and our profile of the studio's last days.

17th Century Action-Adventure Betrayer Releases This Month

Blackpowder Games has today announced that its debut title, Betrayer, will release for PC on March 24.

Set in 1604, Betrayer is a supernatural first-person action-adventure in which players must learn what happened to the inhabitants of an abandoned New World colony.

It's a far cry from the back catalog of the indie studio's seven-man development team. Many of its members were formerly of Monolith Productions, where they worked on games series such as FEAR and No One Lives Forever.

"We've been wanting to create a player-driven game that emphasizes exploration and discovery with minimal hand-holding,” says designer and writer, Craig Hubbard.

"When you’re setting out to create a first person action game with seven people, the biggest fear is that you’ll make something redundant: a cheap version of a bigger, better title. But I feel confident saying you haven’t played anything quite like this.”

Betrayer is currently available for the early access price of USD15, but this will be bumped up to USD20 upon official release.
