Elizabeth Actress Talks BioShock Movie And Irrational

Courtnee Draper, the actress who brought Elizabeth to life in BioShock Infinite and its Burial at Sea DLC, has revealed she's talked with Ken Levine about the long-rumouredBioShock movie and revealed her surprise at his decision to downsize Irrational Games.

Speaking to IGN at last night's BAFTA Game Awards 2014, Draper revealed she's talked to Levine about reprising the role of Elizabeth should the BioShock movie ever come about, and is trying to convince him to crack on with it sooner rather than later.

"Are you kidding me?! Yes!" she replied when asked if she'd be interesting in playing Elizabeth on the big screen. "Hopefully it doesn’t take 20 years and then I’m too old, and could only play Old Elizabeth, but I think that would be so phenomenal. It’s something I’ve been talking to Ken about too because I’m excited for it, I’d be really excited to see that come to life on the big screen."

The cinematic adaptation of BioShock was originally going to be handled by Pirates of the Caribbean's Gore Verbinski working under Universal Pictures, but the project stalled in 2010 due to budgetary concerns. After Verbinski left and another director was brought in, BioShock creator Ken Levine killed the project himself, explaining he had concerns it was going to be "done in a way I didn't think was right."

The news that Draper has spoken to Levine even in passing about the BioShock movie suggests that, while Levine may have killed the previous project, the possibility that it may be resurrected if the right team and story presented itself is very much a real one.

Draper also addressed Levine's recent  decision to downsize Irrational, saying she had no prior knowledge of what was coming.

"I didn’t know it was happening until he released it and I saw the same letter everyone else did on Irrational’s website," she said. "I’m excited to see what he does with it, and I think all the people at Irrational are incredibly talented and they’re being picked up on other games and franchises, so it’s exciting to see what he does next."

Levine's decision means that the BioShock brand has been handed back to 2K Games, and the publisher plans to create new entries independently of Levine in future. For more on Irrational, read IGN's analysis of the layoffs and our profile of the studio's last days.
